If Platonas... was burnt

"If Platonas... was burnt"

The Greek adventures of traditional music,

The musicians and the gnarled road of discography

OFFICIAL AND "UNOFFICIAL" DISCOGRAPHY 1962-2004, SOURCES AND CHOICES

DISCOGRAPHY OF 366 KNOWN AND UNKNOWN MUSICIANS AND SINGERS

AUTHOR
Nikos Bekos

PUBLICATION and PRODUCTION
EL.KE.LA.M. 2006

With this edition –that is accompanied by 2 cds- we are trying to inform, especially the younger, friends of music art and to motivate them against wrong interpretations that become an obstacle in their efforts to become familiarized with the valuable wealth of the real traditional songs, and the artistic value of the music and dance variety. In few words, we are attempting a description of incidents –especially after the 1950’s- and the remarking of some phenomena that accomplished the unfair submersion of the influence of traditional music and also the “sick” hypostasis in the music scene of the same period.

It also refers to parts of cultural and artistic ability that are related to modern (musical or others) means of expression of traditional music.

In the end, using as starting point the collective research of the author, we are presenting an amount of discography elements in chosen units (for example: independent peripheral editions, foreign discs, editions according to categories and regional criteria and catalogues of artists’ discography, etc.) in order to save and record audio proof and to provide valuable information to researchers, musicians and every interested party.

Finally, when the gap is obvious between everything that traditional music should regard and everything that it is getting at last, the truth written in this book will make obvious the reasons why Platonas was never burnt and will never be burnt.
